Headquartered in Ivrea, in the Metropolitan City of Turin, the company has been part of the Telecom Italia Group since 2003.

The company is widely know for its commitment to design excellence, ranging from its first commercial programmable desktop calculators, the Programma 101, introduced in 1964 to the Olivetti Valentine typewriter of 1969, which won the Compasso d'Oro from Italy's Association of Industrial Design (ADI) in 1970.
