Liestal (Alemannic German: [ˈliə̯ʃd̥l̩], Standard German: [ˈliːstal]), formerly spelled Liesthal, is the capital of Liestal District and the canton of Basel-Landschaft in Switzerland, 17 km (11 mi) south of Basel.
