Founded on June 2, 1914, Ceará is one of the most traditionally successful clubs in the Northeast region of Brazil alongside Bahia, Santa Cruz, Sport, Náutico, Vitória and their city rivals Fortaleza.
Ceará is the only team in the state and one of the few in Brazil to have never been relegated below Serie B. It is also the club with the most participations in the Serie A of the state. However, despite spending most of its existence in series B, it never won this title. Unlike its rival, who was national champion in the year of its centenary. In the northeast there is the "G7" of the biggest clubs in the northeast, namely Fortaleza, Bahia, Sport, Vitoria, Nautico and Santa Cruz, and Ceará, with the famous "kanal team" being the only one that has never won a national title.
