Arijit Singh

Arijit Singh (born 25 April 1987) is an Indian playback singer and music composer. The recipient of several accolades including a National Film Award and seven Filmfare Awards, he has recorded songs in several Indian languages, predominantly Hindi and Bengali.

Singh began his career when he participated in the contemporary reality show Fame Gurukul in 2005. Singh made his Hindi cinema debut in 2011 with the song "Phir Mohabbat" along with Saim Bhatt and Mohammed Irfan composed by Mithoon for the film Murder 2, although the song was recorded in 2009. The same year he had sung popular songs like "Raabta" from Agent Vinod, "Uska Hi Banana" from 1920: Evil Returns and "Duaa" from Shanghai.

He received widespread recognition with the release of successful tracks "Tum Hi Ho" and "Chahun Main Ya Naa" from Aashiqui 2 in 2013. He was declared the most-streamed Indian artist of 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023 by Spotify. He is the 3rd most followed artist globally and the most followed Asian on Spotify.

2014 marked his first collaboration with Vishal Bhardwaj, Tony Kakkar, Palak Muchhal, A. R. Rahman and Sachin–Jigar. During the year, he sang "Humdard", "Manwa Laage", "Muskurane", "Suno Na Sangemarmar" and the Sufi song "Mast Magan". In 2015, Singh lent his voice to "Sooraj Dooba Hain" and "Agar Tum Saath Ho" with Alka Yagnik, from the movie Tamasha which is composed by A. R. Rahman and written by Irshad Kamil. From Khamoshiyan he sang the title track and two other songs. He also sang the title track of Hamari Adhuri Kahani for Jeet Ganguli. Arijit sang "Janam Janam" and "Gerua" with Antara Mitra from Dilwale.

In 2016, he sang "Soch Na Sake" from Airlift, "Sanam Re" and "Yeh Fitoor Mera" from Fitoor. From Raaz Reboot he sang "Lo Maan Liya", the mellow melody "Raaz Aakhein Teri" and "Yaad Hain Na". He rendered "Channa Mereya" and "Ae Dil Hai Mushkil" from Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. Singh delivered another chartbuster hit "Nashe Si Chadh Gayi" from Befikre. In 2017, he sang "Zaalima" from Raees. He lent his voice for the love ballad "Phir Bhi Tumko Chaahunga", composed by Mithoon with lyrics by Manoj Muntashir. Singh was the lead singer of the Jagga Jasoos Soundtrack singing "Ullu ka Pattha", "Galti Se Mistake" and 2 other. He also sang "Hawayein" from Jab Harry Met Sejal.

In 2018, he sang "Binte Dil" for the film Padmaavat. It fetched him National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer. From Kedarnath, he sang "Jaan Nissar" and "Qaafirana", composed by Amit Trivedi and penned by Amitabh Bhattacharya. In 2019 his song "First Class" with Neeti Mohan and title-track of "Kalank" was released. He rendered "Khairiyat" from the film Chhichhore. He sang "Tujhe Kitna Chahne Lage hum" from Kabir Singh and "Ghungroo" with Shilpa Rao from War. In 2020, he delivered songs like "Shayad" and "Haan Main Galat". Singh also released his first single "Rihaa". In 2021, he composed music for a film for the first time in Pagglait. He sang "Tumse Bhi Zyada" from Tadap and "Rait Zara Si" from Atrangi Re. In 2022, he sang "Kesariya" and a duet "Deva Deva" with Jonita Gandhi from the movie Brahmāstra. "Kesariya" earned him his seventh Filmfare Award and it also became the first Indian song to cross 300 million and 400 million streams on Spotify. He also sang "Apna Bana Le" composed by Sachin-Jigar.

In 2023 he sang "Jhoome Jo Pathaan" for Pathaan composed by Vishal–Shekhar. He lent his voice for "Tere Pyaar Mein" and " O Bedardeya" from Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar. He also rendered "Phir Aur Kya Chahiye" composed by Sachin-Jigar and "Tum Kya Mile" with Shreya Ghoshal. Composed by Mithoon and lyrics by Sayeed Quadri, he sang "Khairiyat" and "Dil Jhoom" from Gadar 2. He sang "Chaleya" with Shilpa Rao, composed by Anirudh Ravichander for Jawan. "Chaleya" became the fastest song to cross 100 million streams on Spotify India. Singh composed and sang the Theme Song of 2023 Durand Cup.
