Finger splint

Background

Multiple types of finger splint exists
- This page shows general splint - certain fractures or injuries may require an alternative splint technique

Indications

Phalangeal fracture
- Gutter splints probably better for proximal fractures

Procedure

Volar splint (may also splint dorsal aspect)

Assess pulse (capillary refill), motor, and sensation
Apply splint and secure to finger at multiple points (e.g. with tape) - avoid placing securing straps over joints
Reassess pulse, motor, and sensation
