Red Hat Satellite Server

The Red Hat Satellite Server is the on-premise management server for Red Hat Enterprise Linux, with features similar to those offered online through the Red Hat Network (RHN).

Red Hat Satellite 5 is derived from the upstream Open Source project Spacewalk, which is also the basis for SUSE Manager.

It offers a centralized system management console allowing for the deployment of bare-metal and virtual systems, patch and release management, configuration management and monitoring.

It requires a separate support subscription from Red Hat for the Satellite server itself, as well as valid support subscriptions for all of the systems managed through the Satellite. Some features are only unlocked with additional subscriptions.

Red Hat Satellite 6 is very different from Satellite 5. It is a Red Hat branded bundle consisting of Foreman and Katello.
