Nexenta is a Unix-based storage appliance operating system centered around the ZFS filesystem.

The OpenSolaris kernel (including ZFS, CIFS and NFS Servers) is paired with with a GNU/Debian user experience and apt package management. Nexenta Systems Inc makes three versions available:

  • Nexenta Core Platform (text-based UI, community/forum supported, 100% open source)
  • NexentaStor Community Edition (WebUI, community/forum supported, 12TB limit)
  • NexentaStor Enterprise (WebUI, commercial support, licensed per-TB of raw storage capacity)

Nexenta also offers additional capabilities (HA, DRS, FC Target, WORM, Windows backup, etc) via commercial plugins for NexentaStor.
