Questions tagged [sap]

Fluid used to transport water nutrients and water within a plant.

Sap is a fluid that is transported throughout a plant in order to transport water and nutrients. Transport is effected with xylen cells or phloem sieve tubes; which use osmosis (and surface tension / evapotranspiration effects) to lift the sap against gravity.

Sap usually consists of water, sugars, hormones, and mineral elements. It can be harvested - for example, maple syrup is made from reduced sap tapped from trees.

Use this tag for all questions about sap. For example, how to avoid sap seepage (which is often caused by insect damage).
