Questions tagged [roses]

Woody perennial, genus Rosa, grown for attractive flowers.

Roses are woody perennials, family Rosaceae, genus Rosa. Rosa contains over 100 species. Plants are typically erect shrubs, or climbing or trailing plants. Stems usually have sharp thorns. Flowers are usually large and showy, often with notable perfumes. Roses hybridize easily, combined with their popularity, this has resulted in large numbers of cultivars being produced for their colors, scent, and plant-shape.

As well as being grown for their visually striking flowers and perfume, rose fruit ("rose hips") are generally edible and contain a number of vitamins including vitamin C. Rose hips are typically consumed in preserves, tea, or syrup.
