Root vegetable, usually orange, sometimes also purple or cream, where the taproot is the most commonly eaten portion
Carrots are a long pointed root vegetable(vegetables). When fresh, it has a crisp texture and is usually orange in color. Carrots also grow in white, yellow and purple varieties.
The taproot is the most commonly eaten part of the vegetable, though the greens are also edible.
Those grown in home gardens are usually of the domesticated form of the wild carrot (Daucus carota).
